Charlotte Observer College Pre-Season Preview

A nice write up in the Big O this morning on pre-season All America selection Jay Heafner of W. Lincoln/Davidson.

Surprising though is the omission of Chris Carrara/Charlotte Christian/Winthrop, Paul Bennett/Charlotte Christian/Elon, Matt Camp/Belmont South Point/NC State, Jonathan Hovis/Gastonia Forestview/UNC, Taylor MacCurdy/Providence/Lenoir-Rhyne, and Matt Wiley/West Charlotte/Lenoir-Rhyne as players to watch in their respective conferences. These are a few of the local boys who have gone on to prove themselves at the college level.

Shame on the Observer, though, for the omission of Robert Woodard of Myers Park/UNC, a 1st team All-ACC selection last year with a perfect 8-0 record, and pre-season All America selection. Certainly deserving as a player to watch.

The most puzzling selection is Matt Fairweather of Catawba. He had an outstanding career as a pitcher at Catawba, but it will be difficult to "watch" him this year since he completed his college eligibility last spring. Brett (Honeycutt), an explanation is in order for Woodard and Fairweather. In the meantime,
