I have a question about legion ball that one of the legion experts can answer.

There has been a lot of discussion whether to play legion or showcase. At yesterdays practice, a friend said his son was going to play both this summer. Said he had filled out a dual participation form so Legion didn't have a problem with him playing showcase during the legion season or tournament and both coaches were ok with it.

    What's the story on this?

I'm not an expert, but I can answer this question clearly. The kid can play both until the legion playoffs begin. Once the legion playoffs begin, he'd better not play anywhere else until your team is eliminated or your legion season is clearly finished. And that includes weekend showcases too.

This "VERY RULE" affected Greensboro at the state tournament last year, and after what happened with the state champions (Garner), folks need to understand that State legion officials will be watching everyone VERY CLOSELY this year. New folks in legion ball need to get good information.

Btw, don't let your coach tell you that there's anything like a waiver to let you do both, someone's got some very bad information. If you gamble and try to do both, you and your legion team are headed for disappointment.

The way I understand the rule is the dual participation form is valid for the regular season, but does not apply for the playoffs. The player will be ineligible for the remainder of the playoffs if he participates in any other non-legion baseball. The one exception is for individual tryouts with colleges.

Please understand that "individual tryouts for a college" does NOT refer to a showcase. Showcases or tournaments for ANY REASON (or honor) after the legion playoffs begin is a NO-NO...
