    Had Del Phillips been coaching in Lee County? The 4A state championship series with Lee, featuring his son, was the one that got my son & me really interested baseball playoffs. Also, Zach Furl, the freshman pitcher at Lee County, just moved in there from Rocky Mount in December. That kid is a great student, and a very hard worker. I was looking forward to my son being able to play with Zach at RM, but Abbott Labs changed that.

    Del's resume is spectacular. He has helped run the "little kids" age 5-9 for many years at the annual Lee Co. Baseball Camp. He has coached West Lee Middle School and has been an asst. coach at various places. I like to call his oldest son by the nickname "B.P. Oil" He also has another son that might make a fine catcher some day if he learns to eat a potato and keep the weight on. Del's coached boys of all ages and legend has it he was one of the best 1st Base scoop men you'll find in the business.
