    West Stanly

Undefeated in conference play, beat North Stanly last night 3-1. Four losses overall, Piedmont, Northwest Cabarrus, South Stanly and a team that escapes me from Fayetteville 71st Easter Tournament. They play Monroe later this week. Next week they play Forest Hill and Charlotte Catholic and finish the following week with Concord and West Montgomery.
This team has become more and more solid as the year has progressed. The team consist of two Seniors, Cody Eudy and Jeremy Eudy ( they play the corners 3rd and 1st) Sophmores Matt Burrelson and Nathan Furr up the middle (SS and 2nd) behind the dish Tyler Smith or Kyle Mcgarrity( Junior and Sophmore). The outfield consist of Quan Sturdivant, Kurt Benton, Tyler Almond, Jake Bryd ( Sophmore, Junior, Junior, Junior). They have five solid pitchers, Tyler Almond, Kurt Benton, Wil Huneycutt, Nathan Furr, and Ryan McGarrity and all Juniors or younger. It would seem they have a bright future, if they continue to grow and progress. When you watch this team you can see a good chemistry between the players.
Head Coach David Lee, very demanding of his players, excellent teacher, the kids respond to him very well. Probally has been one the best hires at West Stanly. He is building a solid program. I believe he has made the playoffs in every year he has coached at West Stanly, they might have missed one but I don't think so. He also coaches the JV as he tries to schedule the JV and Varsity back to back. This gives the kids that make Varsity a leg up on knowing what to expect. Quite honestly the standard is set here and the kids follow it very well. The JV'S have one conference loss and three losses overall, out of their last three games their pitchers have thrown a no hitter and a two hitter, Matt Large ( no hitter) and Brad Love ( two hitter) both conference games. The future for West Stanly looks good at this point.
