Good players on the pine! "motivation?"

Has anyone got any stories about high school baseball players they've known who were sat out for whatever reason?

Now this is a question of how did the player respond? Did he say to himself "this will never happen to me again, my talent will speak for itself and I'll never sit again!" Or did he throw in the towel?

MJ was cut from his High School basketball team and it created a Juggernaut determined to be the best the world had ever known, lets hear about some players you know of within that same vein.

 

This is a very good topic. I'm surprised you have not had more responses. This is not exactly a situation you asked about, but I know of three players that are very good baseball players...and all three will play or are playing at the next level. But they are on an extremely talented HS team so their playing time is limited. They could have been a distraction on their team, but all 3 (although disappointed that they weren't contributing more) took the high road and supported their teammates. And when they had an opportunity to play, they were always ready. To me that showed much more character than the players starting ahead of them.

This year, one of the players is still not getting a lot of playing time, but he was selected a captain of his team. The leadership he provides in the dugout and on the practice field is a very important ingredient to the success of his team.....this year and last year.

If I was starting a business and looking for a young person to develop, I would love to hire all 3 guys to start my business because I know their character and commitment is unquestioned...these guys will be successful no matter what path they take.

 

This isn't an MJ story, but it's my own.

I got cut from my middle school baseball team at Coulwood my 7th grade year, and barely made it my 8th grade year, and when I got to high school I had some of the guys that played in middle school telling me I'd never make the high school team. Well I tried out anyway, because I love this game very much, and made the team. I played J.V. with some good players, including Zach Butler, Webster Beal, Brian Biggs, Joey Beam, Graham Baughn,and David Blankenship. We were the best in the conference that year, and the next year I was even better. My first game at East Meck my sophomore year I went 3-3 with a triple and a homerun. My senior year turned out to be the best. I hit .418, I had 26 hits (which were most on the team), 1 Homer, 16 RBI's, and I was MVP of the team and an All-Conference selection along with a 2nd team All-Mecklenburg selection. When I look back at it, I wish I could have shown half of the kids that played on that middle school team what I had accomplished by taking in their negative feedback and turned it into awards on my wall.

 

Now thats what I'm talking about......Great comeback story...... even better it was your own.....Super!!!
