No one down here in Athens knows how good Cox and Massaquoi are yet, but I'm hoping that they will show all these Georgians a thing or two about NC football. The parody is definitely better down here in Georgia, but no doubt in my mind that Independence would destroy everyone down here to. How many straight games is that for independence since the Crest loss?

I know Independence is No. 2 in the nation. Who's No. 1?

Depends on who you ask. There are numerous polls out there for HS football, but one of the best is the "Tony Poll". It comes out weekly and also includes a comparison to all of the other polls so you can see how teams rank/compare in the different polls. The comparison "Points" column gives 1 point for a first place, 2 for 2nd etc in each of the national polls. If a team doesn't make it in one of the national polls, they get 50 points under that column.

The best possible score is a 5. Carroll HS in Texas has a 6. They came in #1 in every poll except the Tony Poll which has then 2nd and Independence #1.

Here is the results of the latest Comparison poll.

Rank, Team, Record, Pts., 'Tony Poll', Student Sports, Prep, USA Today, IHigh
    1, Carroll (TX), 13-0, 6, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1
    2, Independence (NC), 13-0, 12, 1, 3, 4, 2, 2
    3, Mission Viejo (CA), 12-0, 18, 7, 2, 2, 3, 4
    4, Colerain (OH), 14-0, 21, 6, 4, 3, 5, 3
    5, Jenks (OK), 12-0, 26, 3, 5, 6, 6, 6

Anyone else in favor of going back to the 4 division system of old. 8 Divisions is too much and the talent is diluted so bad. Most of the real playoff games don't even start till the 3rd round. Also NC should look at how they incorporate the divisions to fit private and public schools together. It's real interesting and i think it would be very well accepted by both public and private school. They take private schools and multiply the number of high school kids by 1.5 and put them in the division that fits that student population. Most of the private schools around the Charlotte area have roughly 450 kids. Multiply that by 1.5 (the extra .5 because private school kids can recruit other kids out of the area) and that would put them in a 2A division. One of the best high school football teams in Georgia is a private school and they play in the second highest division in the state. I think it would be so successful in North Carolina, and would just add to more competition. I don't think it would affect the 3A or 4A classifications. There are some monster private schools down here with about 1,000 kids in high school alone. The thing they do down here better is promote high school football better. They show games on T.V. all the time, and the semifinals of every classification play in the Georgia Dome and are on T.V. which is kinda cool. I think teams like Crest and Independence would crush teams down here because the teams are so one dimensional it makes you nausious. There are some QB's with single digit passing attempts. The occasional teams that do pass are successful because the cornerbacks are so awful. Glad to see UGA is going up into NC for some recruits cause it's a very untapped resource. Kids are coming up to me asking about how good Independence is and what they're up to. I think everyone in Georgia in Alabama thinks everyone in NC is awful and that is why the Patriots dominate, but I think NC is a very underrated football state, but it is kinda cool to walk into class with an East Meck shirt that says I'm from Charlotte and other students ask if my school played against Independence

Well....to be honest, I dont see the NCHSAA going back to the 4 classification system any time soon. I have always thought, and still contend that its a money thing. THEY are now making TWICE the gate that they made before and we all know that money talks and common sense walks. We are seeing teams with winning records getting a lower seed than teams with a losing (or lesser) record. It looks as if we are stuck with it. You can stink and still get in. Teams are shifted eastward or westward to fill the many brackets that become available after the conference bottom feeders have been eliminated from post season opportunity. A team from Fayetteville wound up in the 4A West....and won the West Regional. That seems kinda wacked to me. As for the private schools, I could see all kinds of recruiting issues here....not real sure about that. I would be interested to hear what others thought about it though.

You won't see NC going back to the 4 class playoff system. It is all about the money. They had huge gates at all 4 sites this year and no doubt were laughing all the way to the bank. I also have a feeling that we are fixing to see the same thing happen with the other sports as well. As a matter of fact the new 3A/4A Big south con. has already sent a letter to the NCHSAA asking that they do it. Their reasoning is due to the fact that there will be so many split con.'s next year so only the top team in each con. if their class will automaticly make the playoffs, all the rest will go into some sort of wildcard system. This will give the NCHSAA the justification they need to spilt all sports and not make it look like another money making venture.

Also, get ready to see all of West and East championships to get taken form the home schools. I've heard that the games held at ECU had good gates so don't be surprised if we see other schools like App. get involved and we begin to see the West/East championships played at neutral sites. That would certainly be a bad deal for all.
