I was at the 2A games in derm - got to talk to the big guy Solarte up in the press box.

SW Onslow took it to Shelby all game long. Shelby had the big game jitters - fumbled twice inside their own 15 in the first quarter and never recovered.

Catholic and Western was pure smash mouth football. Tied at 7 at the half. I told a guy filming for Catholic there would only be one more score and I was right - although for awhile I thought it might go to OT.

Catholic scored to go ahead 14-7 with about 1:00 left. Western drove to the 25 - threw up a hail mary with 5 seconds left - ball was caught on the one yard line - ball game. Western booed the call but it was a good one - player wasn't in the endzone.

I was going to root for Western since it was in my area - but I found out my old next door neighbors kid was a defensive end for Catholic so I had to root for them.

    Great games.

    3A/3AA

I attended these games on Saturday.

    3A
    Concord 27
    Hunt 0

The Concord Spiders won this game easily on the strength of their defense as Keiwanus Robinson returned two Hunt interceptions for touchdowns and his team mates stuffed every Warrior attempt to move the ball. Spider QB Tommy Beecher was impressive and appears to have all the makings of a good player at the next level. The Spider offensive line smashed in the Hunt defense as the game wore on and FB Tobin Hurlocker plowed his way downfield. In the end, the Hunt Warroirs proved to be no match for the Concord Spiders and head coach EZ Smith hoisted the trophy high as he paraded his prize in front of the cheering crowd.....beaming with pride.

    3AA
    Crest 26
    Dudley 14

The Crest Chargers beat a very good Dudley Panthers team on Saturday. The two squads appeared to be evenly matched as the defensive units for both teams dominated the first quarter. Dudley scored first in the second quarter and then Crest as both teams took a 7-7 tie into the locker room. In the second half Crest appeared to slowly wrest the game away from Dudley. Crest, using the two platoon system, wore Dudley down. Several of Dudleys best players went both ways the entire game. The great defensive plays that were being made by the Panthers in the first half were not there in the second half. Missed tackels turned into long touchdown runs from the Crest tandem of Littlejohn and Padgett. You could see the Panther players begin to realize the inevitable as they slowly walked back to the huddle after each play with their hands on their hips. Crest was able to go the distance, they were able to "finish". They are well coached. They have experience in the big games. They have now won back to back 3AA State Titles. This was a game played on another level. Both teams have legit D1 talent and speed on both sides of the ball. The Crest offensive line is HUGE. For Dudley, QB Howard Williamson, WR Quinton Corey, OL/LB Dominique Midgett, OL/DL Jerry McNeil had huge games. For Crest, RB Martray Littlejohn, RB Travis Padgett, LB Curtis Young, LB Brandon Spikes and DL Brandon Peterson played very well. I hope I did'nt leave anybody out.

Thanks for the updates during the games Wossa. For those of you that did'nt know, Wossa was filming the 2A and 2AA games for NCPreps. We kept each other updated with scores as the games progressed. We might work us up a little network thing for the upcomming seasons if we can wrangle up a few more interested posters. Thanks to Smash and LarryD for allowing us this forum.

HS Football is over now :( except for the Shrine Bowl. What are we gonna do?

Go to the Shrine Bowl :) - anybody else going?

I enjoyed filming the games - great perspective being able to see the whole field - the first game I was calling in scores and turnovers and it seemed like I was calling every minutes with all the big plays - the second game was just run a few plays, punt, run a few plays punt - good football just not much scoring.

Congrats to Crest for repeating. And also to SW Onslow, Indy, and Rose - four repeat champions this year. And I know the people in Thomasville are glad to have that title back - did anybody hear how that game ended? Rose Hill fumbled the ball away instead of taking a knee and let Tville run in the winning score - got to feel for the kid making the fumble but a bad call on the coaches part to run an unneccesary play.
