Tyler Trice is one of the great recruiting class that UNC-Chapel Hill has signed. His parents are Robert and Lisa and he has a little brother by the name of Austin. We caught with with Tyler (via computer) and asked him some questions for the board.

Tyler, congratulations on your signing with UNC-Chapel Hill. Tell us about it?

Where do I begin? I visited several schools around the state trying to find the best fit for me, and it just so happens that Chapel Hill was that place. I really enjoyed everything I saw at Carolina. I will be playing for a great coaching staff, with some very talented players and I look forward to spending the next several years with them.

Burns is always one of the stronger teams in the state. How do you feel you guys will do this year?

I transferred to Burns from Shelby High to play this last year of high school with 4 other guys that play with me during the summer on our legion team, Shelby Post 82. We are used to playing together and being around one another so the chemistry on the team will be great. I think that it will take us far, hopefully to a State Championship.

You have been rated as one of the top pitchers in the State by many sources. How do you handle all the accolades?

Like everyone else I enjoy getting rewarded for hard work and dedication
by hearing and reading some of the things that are said, but it doesn't get in
    the way of my goals.

Who influenced you the most in your baseball career?

My parents. They have been my biggest supporters. They taught me about hard work and dedication. They have always been there for me - from driving me to practice to watching all my games. If I had to name some one in the field of baseball, I would have to say Hal Hamrick. Hal was my pitching coach for three years. He groomed me and really made me believe that I could play at the next level.

Knowing that there are many young kids in your area that would like to
emulate you, what advice do you have for them?

Never stop working for it. But, if you really love the game it won't seem like work. You do have to put in the time and effort. Most of all just have fun. After all it is just a game.

Who is the best player you have played with?

It's a toss up between Chad Flack and Jamie Ray. I have played both
against and with both of them. Chad is a power hitter and Jamie is a gap
    hitter with tremendous speed.

    What's your favorite food?

    Chicken and Dumplings

    And your favorite movie is?

    Dumb and Dumber

What do you like to do on your days off?

Hang out with my friends and watch baseball.

What is the one thing that you are most proud of?

My hard work and where it has got me so far.

Thanks to Tyler for taking the time to answer our questions. I know great things are in store for him, Burns Baseball and, in particular, UNC-CH down the road.

.... we've had a great group of guys from across the state this winter ... but with the season upon us, it's about time to wrap up the interviews until next winter.

I got to put a face with the name, Tyler Trice, this weekend at the Impact Showcase at Elon. Although I didn't actually talk to him, I thought he did plenty of talking when he took his turn on the mound in front of the coaches and scouts. He was one of the few that I felt could have pitched a game that day.

Besides, any guy that loves chicken and dumplings as much as I do, has to be a great guy.... ;)

Good luck this year Tyler, and good luck at UNC.

Wow....I saw Tyler pitch in Jupiter and he dominated down there....and I was equally impressed with him yesterday. I 2nd rc's statement about Tyler ready for the season and I 3rd his statement about "chicken and dumplin's"

When we meet Burns in the Shelby Tournament, I need to make sure I get to know Lisa Trice, so I can get a sample of what Tyler is talking about......Hmmm Hmmmm:D

Tyler is not only a great pitcher but a fine person as well. UNC is fortunate to have a player and a person of his caliber. I am sure the Burns Bulldogs feel like a kid in a candy store with Tyler's addition to an already strong team.

Good luck this year and the years to follow!
