BASEBALL IS LIFE to those who have played it and have had the rare opportunity to play it at the highest levels as well as coach it at the highest levels! "I knew there were things being said out there," he said, "but no one ever came up to me and said anything, and I don't read the Internet. Most of the guys on those message boards never coached a day, and many of them never played one. They didn't know the whole story."

My Hat's off to Coach Kirby!! I have been through a similiar situation where I let go a 2 time all conference outfielder and my best overall player for conduct detremential to the team. Granted, this was later in the season (near the start of conference play) and it probably ruined our record. After I released the player, the team came together and everybody enjoyed the season more and the young kids we had played harder, which will help us this season.

When are we as coaches going to stand up to prima donnas and do what's best for the team?

Times have changed in high school sports... the parents and the prima donnas think they run the show, in many places. You try to work with parents and players and they want it their way at times. I have seen it for myself and heard of it in too many other places. I remember when the coaches were respected and never questioned, but society and respect for elders have also changed alot also. It is not in just the coaching profession, it exists in schools, in businesses, in society as a whole.

What do YOU think the answer is?

Coach Kirby, good luck in the playoffs, you deserve a championship.
