Didn't want to highjack the thread honoring the selections so will start a new thread.

What is the process for getting selected for All Conference and All State? I am not trying to start a bashing/political thread. I am asking because I really don't know.

Is it based solely on stats?

What is the coaches role in this process (do they have to submit candidates with stats/reasons/etc.)?

Who gets a vote? Is it a committee?

Cannot speak for the All-Conference teams. Conferences across the State have different rules and formats for choosing All-Conference players. The Conference in which my team plays goes by order of finish.

    1st place: 4
    2nd place: 3
    3rd place: 3
    4th place: 2
    5th place: 2
    6th place: 1
    7th place: 1
    8th place: 1
    9th place: 1
    10th place: 0

There are two at-large selections that any team in the coference can nominate a player for to make a team of 20 selections.

There is a process for the All-District and All-State teams that are recognized by the NCSCA. Coaches across the State are given the opportunity to nominate players from their team who they believe are worthy of All-District recognition. Each District has a selection committee made up of the District Chairperson and NCSCA members in that District. That committee makes the selections for the All-District teams. All-District Teams must be chosen and turned in at Walnut Creek during the Championships. The All-District selections are the pool for the All-State teams. There is an All-State committee made up of Executive Board members of the NCSCA who make the All-State selections at a meeting during the week of the State Games competition. Hope this helps and we welcome any questions you may have about the process.

    Thanks Pops!

Yes that certainly helps. I didn't know the conferences could differ.

For your conference, how are the girls from each team selected? Do the coaches decide who gets it from their team? i.e. 4th place coach picks 2 girls from his/her team and that is that?

One other question. Does your conference have a tournament? If so, are the rankings based on the tournament or regular season results?

Sorry if those are silly questions...

Our Conference does have a tournament, but The All-Conference meeting is held after the season and and before the tournament. Seeding for the tournament is determined by regular season order of finish. Coaches put up the young ladies whom they feel are deserving of All-Conference. All coaches have the right to question the choices, but it is pretty much a done deal and everybody votes them in at the end. Each school also gets 1 Honorable Mention.

In our conference there is no set number for the amount of players a team can submit or get. With that said..to the victors go the spoils. Usually the the top 2 teams get 5 or 6 and it has been higher. 3rd and 4th get 3 or 4 and the rest may get 1 or 2 each. The coaches submit the names and numbers and all the coaches vote on the players. We have around 20 all conference players (could be 22 or 23). We could have 4 pitchers, 4 catchers..etc. I almost wish they would have a first team, second team, third team scenario where you have 1 1st team all conference third baseman, second baseman...etc. You could have 2 pitchers, 1 each of all the other positions, and a DH on each team. I am sure there are reasons for the way the various conferences do it.

as most know, the big south will become a sole 3A conference next year with the induction of kings mtn and lose of east gaston.

we had our conference meeting a while ago to discuss our new conference by laws.

the bylaws that we were handed were a bit unusual in regard to all conference selection....here's a bit of what we read.

all teams will nominate 13 players for all conference (thats 91 players out of about 110)

21 players will be named to all conference first team with the remainder of nominated players being on the all conference second team...............do the math, thats about 70 players on the second team....

we changed this of course, but the fact is that these bylaws were from someone elses conference.

some of us wanted to go with the "better you finish, more you can nominate" type system, which seemed quite fair and common sense says that the better you finish, the more talented players you have. we have had instances where a team that finished next to last had more all conference players than the teams that finished second or third. didnt seem fair.

    whats your opinion on that....

I am glad to hear you changed the original bylaws they had. IMO, having that many girls would water it down and certainly take away from those that are deserving of the honor.

As for the better you finish, more you can nominate... Logically that makes sense but there could be exceptions (as with everything). For example, if you have 2 or 3 girls that are really good but you have no pitching, your outfield isn't that good (most coaches will put the better players in the infield), and nobody other than these 2 or 3 are batting above .150, chances are you are not going to win many games. In this scenario, you will probably finish last in the conference and only get maybe 1 nomination (in Pops' conference you would get any) even though more are deserving to at least be considered. In this case, you would have to rely on the at-large nominations and hope the other coaches know these girls.

    Just my nickles worth...
