Based loaded, runners on first, second and third, no outs. Count is two balls and one strike. Coach in the dugout signals for the batter, a left-handed hitter, to hit a high chopper just over the reach of the second baseman and into right-center field. The next pitch is low and away so the batter takes the pitch. The next one is belt high and on the outside corner. The batter swings with a downward motion in an attempt to hit the high bouncer his coach asked for, but because it was outside, he wasn't able to pull it to the right side. Instead, the ball bounces over the shortstop's head and into left-center. Two runs score. The coach is incensed that the batter hit it to the wrong side of the diamond and attacks him with a fungo bat.

I'll wait for your answers and in July I'll let you know what the umpire ruled. All I can say is you won't believe it.

I naturally assumed he was since he wasn't coaching from third base...

I blame the coach. He should have given the batter the hook after he took that pitch.

Whew, I'm glad Grid explained what bases loaded is. C'mon Grid, don't make us wait til July

    OK, here's what transpired:

The first base ump tackled the coach before he could get any licks in on the batter. The umps disarmed him and after they calmed him down, they sent him back to the dugout.

The runner who was on third was credited with scoring a run. However, the runner who scored from second was charged with interfering with the first baseman, who had drifted over to make a possible cutoff of the throw from the outfield. He was forced to go to first, while the runner who had been on first went to third and the guy who hit the chopper over short went to second. The runner who scored was placed on-deck and three runs were added to the home team's total from the previous inning.

Like I said, you wouldn't believe it.

Was this Mrs. Throckmorton's kid that was at bat? If so, what did she do? I heard about the last time the coach got in her wheelhouse
