Coaches, let's open this can of worms for discussion. Which is the best? Rotational or Linear hitting?

    Oh no...

Not this again... There have been several threads on this that got quite long. Maybe the mods could dig up the latest one and just give it da bump...

its a combination.... I have spent LOTS of time and money figuring this one out. For reasons yet hidden somehwere in astrophysics, black holes and quantum mechanics FP is different in baseball. Having one in both sports you have to "stay back" in baseball but in FP there must be some linear component, ie move back to the pitcher in order to be successfull.

so, in short, I say its a combination in FP and yes we have talked ad nauseum about it but I never tire of talking hitting mechanics.

No, it wasn't bad, just long. There are a lot of opinions of which one is right or better and why and it made my head hurt reading all of the posts...

What I've noticed in softball verses baseball is less of an emphasis on the finish... in other words, in baseball you have the "short to it, then long through it" theory, which may be more rotational based. The need for this, I believe, comes from the greater pitching distance and the greater difference (up to 10-12 mph) between fastballs and off speed pitches... a hitter wants to keep the bat head traveling through the strike zone as much as possible to compensate for some of the variations in the speed.

As far as linear vs. rotational, I prefer to look at "can hit, can't hit"... even I can figure that one out!
