Charity a senior recently notched the 1,000th strikeout of her impressive softball career.

Watson became just the fifth pitcher in N.C. High School Athletic Association fastpitch softball history to achieve that total.

Watson has fanned 1,019 batters in her career(36 more this past weekend). Crystal Cox of Central Cabarrus holds the state record with 1,455 strikeouts, recorded between 1999 and 2002.

Cox is followed on the list by West Forsyth’s Mendy McKenzie (1,192 from 2002-05), Clayton’s Sarah Jackson (1,130 from 2004-07), Gina Allen of Central Cabarrus (1,077 from 2003-06) and Watson.

Watson is coming off her fourth consecutive one-hit gem(another 1 this past weekend). Her latest triumph was a 1-0 win over the third-ranked, and previously unbeaten, D.H. Conley Vikings.

She now has 43(2 more this past weekend) shutouts in her career, which ranks fourth best all-time.

Cox had 79 shutouts in her career. Allen recorded 77, while Forbush’s Hannah Angel finished with 55.

Watson, is fourth all-time with 15 career no-hitters.

There are some very good NC pitchers opting to go the Junior College route...good for them!!

    Today

Heard Charity and Kelly Beres of Rose hooked up in a great dual today with Rose winning 1 to 0 on a squeeze. Kelly pitched a 2-hitter and scored the winning run, I heard and Charity threw bullets as well. Great game with two fine Eastern pitchers, one up and coming and one moving to next level.
Keep an eye on Kelly as she is a determined young lady.
Congratulations to Charity on her signing!

    Not sure

Not sure how this subject matter relates to this thread! However, Gina is a great young lady a fierce competitor and gives 100% for her team. She is a team player first and worries about her stats and appearances only when she is in the game trying to help her team win.
Emily Jeffrey has been on fire and their other pitcher, name escapes me right now has pitched well when she is well! UNCC is having a great year and all three pitchers have contributed when called upon. Gina is just fine and I sure the coach at Charlotte is the only one that can address anything else.

EOR, don't know Miss Allens situation, but I can tell you that pitching at D1 level is a whole different world than pitching HS. Every batter is good, strong, & 1 mistake, the ball is going over the fence. Strike zone is much tighter, so now you have better hitters, & smaller strike zones, very tough!!!

    100% Correct

Most college coaches I speak with agree that hitting is rapidly catching up with pitching, especially at the D1 level. This is especially noticeable in the 7, 8 and 9 spots. Even five years ago things were soft there; but not any more. With bat technology, weight programs (big difference between D1 and D2/3/JC) and better hitting instruction (recognizing that hitting a softball and baseball are not different) pitchers who can't throw at least 62 mph with movement are not going to make it.
