This should be a good thread to hear from coaches what they experienced from parents / kids over their careers of years of hard work and how much time that they spend with their own families..........sacrifices and relationships with their kids, and suggestions on how to spend quality time when you have more than one kid in a family !!!

    I Will Start !!

I did a terrible job as a parent with my twin sons, I was always on the ballfield with my daughter and missed the camping trips, fishing excursions, and most of their baseball games. I'm only speaking the truth about the issue. Now those formative years are gone ,and both of my boys are getting ready to graduate from App. State, one is going to grad school, the other may or may not continue his major, and get his masters. But at any rate I caution any parent with one or more kids try your hardest to give as much equal time to all family members, because it will be too late one day !!!:seeya:---- Cya Guru

    Good advise

Guru, U have hit a home run here! Your crystal ball has given all some advise that is priceless! My daughters got most of my attention over the years as both played softball at Butler and on Mint Hill rec leagues and Blues which of course I tried to coach. Taylor got a little time from me as he tried to play baseball. We spent time in cage and on field and actually he was developing into a pretty good player but a health issue stopped his drive and he became a celloist and actor as well as Boy Scouts! Mom became his support system for the most part and I ran with the girls! Missed a whole lot of father/son time! Made most of his concerts etc but not the same. However, developed strong father/daughter relationship till days with Blues were done! As I continued Blues time was taken from my kids and wife but they supported as they knew I loved being involved with softball and the players development.
Over the many years, I have made many wrong decisions, some right decisions but hope a few gained from their experiences. We learn quickly that their are always unhappy people no matter what you do, the problem I have always experienced, I can't let it go when I know players or parents are unhappy, it hurts! Well I am getting off Guru's subject!
Remember a line from an old "chick" flick "love means never having to say you are sorry". I love my family with all I can give and appeciate every day how they sacrificed for me and supported me with my battle against cancer! Also, I truly love all the girls that have played with Blues even if we did not see eye to eye, it was never personal! All of you are very special, always remember, we are gifts put on this world to serve!
Sorry Guru got way off base but you certainly can make us all think! LOL

with me only having one child, this didnt become an issue for the ones still at home, but i know that my business suffered along with my relationship with my wife, who too this date, will not set foot on a softball field. as i take more and more of a back seat to softball, our relationship is stronger, and i still go to watch some softball, but we have agreed that this will be my last year as a hs coach (but my dd is taking my place, so i still have a reason to go watch). it was a great and rewarding period in my life, i cant think of a more perfect world than spending much of my daughters childhood (and my second childhood) on the field with her playing ball....we both loved it and still do. the friends i have made will last the rest of my life and the kids i have adopted over the years are constantly in touch with me as i see their lives bloom and their kids grow up callin me pops... its worked out for my business despite me spending large amounts of time on the field, as my sole competitor has had enough of me and is currently trying to buy me out (heck yeah!!!) believe me, it was worth the time.................

    Coaches wives.....

    .....probably give more than anybody.
When my DD was with the NC Dominators/Dale Thomas team, Dales wife Lori did EVERYTHING for the kids! Without her smarts in hotels, insurance, non-profit, fundraising, medical attention to the girls, practice times, emails, AND, having a son DJ Thomas, (see baseball thread 2010 players), who was playing every weekend as well as Dale and Loris DD, Christie ( Pfieffer SS), Mama Lori, would get our teams issues in correct order, and then travel with DJ to his games.
Lori Thomas, and certainly many other coaches wives deserve a "shout out"!
    Thanks!:fan_wave2:
