The players

will be the winners not just the teams. I would be willing to bet there will be a good amount of college coaches present this weekend.

Some people post for awhile and their interest (player) moves on and so do they. Then there are others who's interest is the game and all the players. I guess it becomes pretty easy to tell who falls into each category.

Some post on every "Top 200?" thread , but never offer anything constructive unless its pumping a particular interest (player). That becomes rather obvious as well.

Oh well.

That's very true. I understand it because it's been going on since the inception of TBR. People love their kids and their teammates, so their interest goes with those players. For me, I love this level of the game. They go through so many changes from their sophomore year to their senior year and it's fun to watch them grow. High school players have an innocense about them that you can't find at other levels of baseball. Many are like sponges; absorbing all the instructions they receive and try to develop into better players.

I love watching the rivalries of high school baseball. The raw emotions built up before, during and after the game is not duplicated anywhere else. I love watching the less talented player bust his butt to get better. I love watching the unheralded player come up with the key hit or pitch to win the game...and then sit back and watch him soak in his excitement of what he accomplished. I love watching the parents that cheer every player on the team; after a win or loss. I get a kick out of watching the parents of the starting pitchers; seeing them exhale a deep breath after every pitch.

I love watching the elite showcase teams watching some of the best group of talented players in NC compete against each other. The other thing I love about showcase baseball that no one ever talks about is this. Prior to showcase, players from all over the state may have heard about a "stud" kid, but never had the opportunity to see him play. Everything was based on hearsay. With the advent of showcase baseball, now players from Western NC not only get a chance to see the studs from the East, many times they become teammates.

I can say this with confidence. The relationships built with players and their families are never the same after high school. Sure you will meet new families at the next level and some will become long lasting friends, but that community spirit that many relationships were developed will never be equaled outside high school level baseball. Those are some of the reasons I continue to enjoy TBR and why I continue to love watching this level of baseball over the other levels.

You are right Braves. Those High School days are some of the best. We had a group of parents that sometimes the whole team and parents would go eat after the games. Especially on the road, and when at home we all went to the favorite Mexican restaurant right down the road. We are still very good friends with some of those families.

Back in the allstars and travel ball days, being on the road together and staying at the same motels we became like family also. When I see any of those people we always meet with a hug. Family forever. It is something special that can't be explained, it has to be lived out.

We are starting over with my 8-year old playing rec ball. We are meeting new people but they are mostly all younger than we are so I'm sure they just think we are old. I don't think it will be the same.

If you or your kid is still in High School stop dwelling on all the things you don't like about the school, the team, the coach, etc. Just enjoy being there with your kid and his friends. It will be over before you know it and you will miss them all. I'm lucky to get to talk to my son once a day now on the phone.

 

That is so true! It's amazing how as a whole, the baseball culture moves and changes and alters and kids overlap and move and then you're kid is playing ball with the kid he played ball with when he was 9 or playing against a kid he played with when he was 12 or sees a kid from a tournament he had when he was 13. Sometimes, the past gets foggy and you can't always remember how you knew who and from where, but the one common bond is baseball and the love you have for the game. And how you wish those kids well, no matter where they play. Baseball weekends and high school level baseball have been some of the most fun and memorable times for me - including the sharing of the beer and barbs after the games. I wouldn't trade them for anything!

 

Every school in NC will have at least one scout there. The bigger schools will probably send 2 or 3.
