I want to make something completely clear,,, I do not believe Tommy Knotts recruits anymore than any other coach at any other school,,, he don't have to. His program and reputation is what attracts others TO HIM. In fact, I believe TK is clearly the 2nd BEST high school football coach in the state NC in terms of knowing how to coach AND knowing how to win, 2 traits that not all great coaches have. (of course Bruce Hardin is #1)

But Braves, I realize school choice is not an open transfer policy, but there are those around the state who truly believe Meck Co has an open transfer policy. The problem I saw with selecting 3 schools when it began is simply that nobody ever talks about all science students going to some special science school,,,,, but you know as well as I do that when one school starts getting all the baseball players or all the football players and winning all the time,,, then folks will start hollaring,,, and they have.

Maybe today's problems in Meck Co has nothing to do with school choice, but clearly they need to tighten up the transfer policy.

It isn't that hard to get players when your the best team in Mecklenburg County and also have 7 straight State Championships. He might have not done anything wrong it's just the best players where coming to Indy to get recognition and win a state championship.

Very, very seldom is anybody allowed to go to a choice school unless it is under-populated or a magnet school...and most magnet programs are moved to under-populated schools.

All one has to do to attend Independence is to move into the district.....financially not a difficult thing to do.

This sounds a little like the situation at Grimsley in baseball. They have a very good baseball coach and strong academics. They have had a lot of quality players transfer there. Some accuse the coach of recruiting (wrongfully in my opinion). Don't blame the coach because parents move their residence for a better academic experience along with a better baseball experience. I tend to think that if you build a quality program and have a reputation of developing players, you don't need to recruit. They'll come to you. I don't know Independence but possibly that is what has happened.

No question great programs and great traditions at certain schools are attractive to us fans, so yes players want to be parts of great things also.

Dean Smith never had to recruit,,, players came to him.

    People transfer for sports

I think the above sentence should be reversed.

Stretch, I live in North Davidson...and we have a ton of people who move across the county line from Winston Salem for the academic & social welfare of their kids. Same for Davie County. So that belongs in the sentence...right?

We moved my younger son from 1 private school to another private school for academic reasons however the baseball situation also improved.

We looked at moving my oldest a year or so ago and academics were the number 1 criteria. The baseball would have probably been a wash and the football would have been a step down. In this situation sports were considered.

What I didn't understand was the fact that Indy had ineligable players, just as West Charlotte and South Meck did, and they didn't have to forfeit their season but West Charlotte AND South Meck did. It was known that Indy had ineligable players and they removed them from the team but it still doesn't take away from the fact that they were ineligable. Why were they not forced to forfeit their season, because it's Independence?
