I've watched several girls out of JH Rose HS in the past several years including Erin Furness (Pfeiffer) and her sister Leslie Furness (UNC Greensboro).

    JH Rose

Other Rose girls having nice careers include Dani Beres at Belmont Abbey, Sam Murad at Carolina and Stacey Andrews currently leading ECU in hitting and HR's.

    First hand

Have watched Dani develop this year in to a great player! She should have made all-conference with five homeruns and 40+ RBI's and 18 runs scored as well as hitting well over .300 and playing well in field at second and third.:1luvu:

    Congrats

..Dukedog, know you're a beaming PaPa bout now. Like I stated earlier. I thank her & other older Carolina girls for opening the doors for the younger players. You are seeing more & more Carolina girls on rosters now.

    Carolina Talent

I see this trend continuing. I know Donna Papa and Lisa Navas are both taking a "Carolina First" approach to recruiting. They are always going to have CA & FL kids but when things are pretty much equal (and they increasingly are) they prefer to stay at home. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for ECU. On opening day the starting lineup included 3 Hawians and 4 Californians. Ironically, the leading hitter on that team is Stacy Andrews JH Rose product who went to Pitt Community and then walked on. Maybe there's a lesson there somewhere.

    Out of State

You would think that in state girls would be a better approach. Does tuition not double for out of state players. Would that not eat up more scholarship $ ? Have heard Coach Kee gets alot from out West. Believe Winthrop likes Canadians for some reason.

In State vs Out of state

This was the case until three years ago. At that point the legislature allowed those on athletic scholarship to be charged in-state rates thus saving all UNC system athletic programs big $$. There are some odd things about the legislation, however, in that it is differentially applied to full vs partial scholarships. You'd have to talk to a UNC system official to get the details.
