Funny ..... but True!!

Never saw anything like this happen before in any age level of play. But this happened last night.

Here's the deal:

Nothing to nothing ball game, ..... pitchers duel, ......fifth inning, ..... man one first, ...... no outs.

The batter has attempted to bunt two times but has fouled off the first to strikes. On his third attempt to lay down the bunt, he pulls back the bat and the ball hits the catcher right in the face mask and the ball literally sails over the back stop. The base runner is awarded second base because the ball is ruled out of play. I'm not naming names here or second guessing the umpires, but I laughed and laughed at that one!

was it called a ball or strike? anyway yes one base is awarded on this play since it was a pitch.

 

It was called a ball! In fact, the very next pitch the batter did lay down the bunt, moving the base runner (now at second) to third. They were not able to score the run during the inning!
