Okay, I can see everyone's point of view. But .....................

I recently had a great conversation with a player that was recently drafted to play minor league ball this year who happened to play in the SW4A last year. I asked him for some advise on going to College. Here's what he said. "If you want to play college ball, you must play Showcase during the summer and fall months. (NOT showcase through USSSA & AAU, that's a joke) Why? you ask, the simple reason is that the scouts are more available during their off season" Summer & Fall! This kid had a great scholarship and was going to a D1 school but got drafted and decided to play ball in the minors first?

There is a young man that pitches for a SW4A team now that has signed to play for a D2 school here in the Carolinas. He's a pitcher and has not started until this year, which happens to be his senior year! He never got off the bench until this year but played on a competitive showcase team during the summer and fall.

Something is wrong here, but maybe I'm missing something????????????

My big problem with it is the for profit thing. Some of these programs will take players whose parents will spend the money whether these players are ready, capable or not. That is where I see the showcase route growing.

    Nuff said.

I want my son to play showcase

IF there are FREE tryouts and then the best players are picked to be on teams to go and play showcase tournaments and get exposure and maybe even some coaching/training then I don't see anything wrong with that even for a profit BUT if anyone is being reeled in just to fill rosters then we have a big problem.

For example this kid should be cut instead of his parents being bilked out of good money. Braves is this kid related to you?

You are correct in that many of these programs are for a profit. I don't have a problem with that as long as the buyer gets what they are paying for. What's sad is when teams or people make promises they can't delive. It's buyer beware. Just like all these people that took out mortgages they couldn't afford and put no money down and now expect the government to bail them out. Maybe the government will bail showcase out.

Philly, I was not referring to AAU showcase ball. I was referring to showcase ball coming after AAU/USSSA and others. Sorry.

    Little Johnnie

I can't believe you singled out little Johnnie like that. Putting his picture on here and running him down like that. He only catches when he is not pitching or playing shortstop or centerfield whichever one he wants to play that day. Yes he is the coaches son but that means nothing. He is leading the team in batting average steals and ERA even with his mom keeping score. If we keep getting harrassed like this we will go and start our own team again and take little Johnnie with us. I can't believe you can't see his talent like his mom and me can. Why even Grandma and Grandpa can see it.

Ps. We will take our ball and go home.
