I want to make everyone aware of an alternative to the USSSA, AAU and others National baseball tourneys which are held each summer. My 13 year old son's Angels team is going to an event called Score International. They'll play the tradional AAU/USSSA events throughout the spring and summer however for their season ending National event we have all decided to play a tourney in the Dominican Republic under Score International. Here is a brief discription.

Score International is a missions organization. The boys will go down and play approximately 2 games a day (you can play more if you want). They will play Domincan national teams and some teams form the United States, other latin countries and possibly teams from other countries. Each day the boys will do some type of missions work. It may be working on houses, painting, volunteering at orphanages, helping with local youth organizations and such. Pretty much whatever you choose.

The kids will get to play on some of the finest national fields in the Dominican Republic while also playing on some poor fields (you can also request your venues). We felt it would be good for our boys to see both to realize how good we have it at home. The teams are housed in a hotel with pool right on the beach. Meals are included for players and coaches, similar to Cooperstown. Cost is 1000.00 per player.

Score International offers these sports/missiion trips all over the world and in various sports and activities.

We plan on taking down extra equipment, donated items, anything that will help the programs and kids in the Dominican. We are finding some businesses to donate equipment for the kids down there. Score International will ship it for us for free.

I just wanted to share this opportunity with the youth, rec, aau, travel coaches out there as an option to the traditional summer national events. Who needs another plastic trophy or a 9th place finish in the consolation bracket? This is an opportunity to give back to others through missions, play some baseball, go to a very nice venue, help other kids, and expose our children to something different.

In addition there are fishing trips, white water trips, snorkeling and other activities other than baseball.

    Baseball can help others....

My 13u Stretchlon Stars team is planning the same trip this year. My umpiring friend Kenny Dickerson here in town is very connected to Score International and has been on numerous trips to the DR and other places. This is a great opportunity for the young players to see that life is not just about playing games and trying to win at all costs. Thanks Kirk for posting this.

This really is a wonderful opportunity for young players to learn many lessons. Thanks for posting this putt.

I wonder if they do this for fp women softball teams as well?

    Here's the website. Sorry I can't do a link.

My whole family is going. They need instructors and coaches. My oldest is going down straight from East Cobb to work with little kids.

They also have clinics throughout the year and need coaches to come down and teach baseball.

    Donated Equipment

Do you or have you considered taking any donated equipment? I know we have a bat or two no longer being used and probably a pair of cleats or so that were out grown before being worn out. I know there is an expense associated with shipping it and as individuals you can only take so much in you luggage... Regardless, I would be happy to donate some of the used stuff we have laying around...

Before you respond, :surrender:you might want to think about your answer, if you speak openly on here about taking stuff with you, you might be overwhelmed by the giving from the TBR members!!!:flowers:

Would love to have donated equipment. In fact, I can get all gloves refurbished and new shoe strings in cleats. Shipping is not a problem. I already have a gaylord full of stuff in my warehouse, both new and plenty of used. Anything is appreciated. I have all spring and summer to get up with people to pick up anything. Score International will ship everything to the Dominican and if anyone around here has anything that needs to be shipped I can give you my UPS account number. I sign my name and email to every post so I'm easy to reach. Thanks for bringing this up RedSoxFan.
