hypothetical: a new kid moves to an area just before the start of academic year in mid to late Aug at a public HS. wants to play a fall sport but this is well after tryouts, pre-season practices, and maybe even after a game or two (we all know that games in fall sports now begin prior to the start of classes at schools). Can the kid be added to a team? does it require a special tryout session? what if it's in a sport that did actually have cuts? what if it's to a team that due to #'s did not cut anyone?

just wondering anything official on this or any thoughts on the subject.

    from...

what I know and past experience should be no problem...it may require a tryout but as far as football is concerned most schools are now keeping everybody for they want to show larger numbers...he will have to workout five pratcie days w/o pads before suiting up tho!

Exactly. Usually not a problem, especially in football.

Sounds like a ringer if the coach does not question skills with a try out. It happens more than people know. This BS about they moved into the area for across town is what I stated at the start BS. Think about it, How many people would move just move down the road, even while their kid is in high school. Not many. I was faced with the decision this past year with moving out of state. It was the real deal no sports involved. I struggled with my son leaving his friends and high team (no super team here) just his buddies he has played with. Jumping off the horse.

We had several kids transfer in late for football and we lost a couiple late also. It's very common in the fall sports, especially with kids who have family in multiple districts. There is no tryout for football at most schools. As to sports like soccer, I can't answer. We did have two added to our baseball team who could not make tryouts due to them being champion wrestlers. One player started and had been on the team every year and the other had not played in a couple of years but could still hold his own. Nobody had a problem with it.

Oh not saying that if a kid is playing in a sport prior to the start of the season of another. Season in the fall sports often overlap same for winter going into the spring sports. I took the post as if a kid transfers in and there is no form of prep or tryout. The kid just takes a place on the roster without providing any support other than here I am. I am not that dumb to think that a player cannot transfer from another school or district and be a ringer. It is up to the admin. to insure that proper transfer procedure are followed. Which in most cases they are not. As they say rules are for honest people, ones trying to play the system will find a way. As for kids that play into the season from another sport. They must be given a chance to try out for the team. If they have done things the right way no question will be posed, except by those disheart by not being on the team.

If a kid moves in from another school he/she must meet eligibility requirements (pass 75% of classes, meet attendance requirements, etc...) then he can play.

    cut

    coach evans,
if the kid is going to a sport that actually had "cuts" after tryouts, would the new kid be required to go through a similar tryout session(s)?

I would think that would vary depending on the school, the AD, and the coach. I doubt there is a hard and fast rule on this.
