What are the primary responsibilities of a HS baseball coach? Please list them briefly but in priority order.

Interested in where involvement in helping kids get recruited is on the list.

A few comments on these. First, the first 3 are automatic, and are equally important. Coaching is important, but our kids wil not develop as young men if the first 3 aren't where they are.

As far as recruiting goes, it is a partnership between the players, coaches and parents. Effective communcation is a must. All parties need to be active and the coach must do that too. The coach needs to be honest with parents and players, everybody wants to play D-1 ball for a perennial power. The coach has to be a realist even if it upsets parents. But the coach must be informed so he can accurately help his players, which means communicating with coaches and having a third party evaluate his talent, if he is a young coach. Find another coach you trust and let him evaluate the player also. Develop relationships too and this helps with recruiting. The coach must be involved but it must be from an informed standpoint.
