I have read a couple of places that a high school player has committed to play at a specific college/university. What, exactly does that mean? An example is Mikal Hill who the press has said has"committed" to play for the USC Gamecocks. Hill is currently a junior and supposedly "committed" when he was a sophomore.
Who has made the commitment? The player? the college? both? And can that commitment be broken by either party?
    Thanks,

A school will make an offer. If a player accepts that means they are "committed" to that school. It is not binding until a National Letter of Intent is signed their senior year. In baseball it is extremely rare for a player or school to break that commitment.

But you can believe if a player commits early, it's because they received a tremendous offer and it's the school they hoped to attend.
